These two specially adapted pine lodges are available for use by our disabled guests and their family or friends, and a plan of their layout may be seen on page 6 of our brochure. Whilst every effort is made to ensure that a wheelchair bound person can use most of the facilities on the park, it is assumed that they will be accompanied by at least one able-bodied carer.
Each lodge accommodates a maximum of four people in one double and one twin bedroom, the wheelchair access being to the twin room (bed height – 20 inches including the mattress which is 6 inches high) with en-suite bathroom (bath with bath seat but no shower) where there are hand rails to aid use of the bath and toilet. The height of the toilet is 21 inches and the side of the bath 18 inches. Please note, however, that the use of a hoist is only possible by raising the divan style bed on “elephant feet” (which we supply) to allow approximately 6 inches underneath the bed for our guests to use their own mobile hoist.
The conventional bathroom for able bodied guests has a shower (not a bath) but the height of the side is 20 inches which usually means that it is unsuitable for use by disabled guests even if they are able to access the bathroom without a wheelchair.
Access to the special lodges is made easy by a long ramp to the veranda, where double doors open into the lounge area which is spacious and well furnished. However, we would stress that ALL our other lodges have 3 steep steps to their doors as well as occasional steps along the pathways leading to them, and are therefore not suitable for guests with mobility problems.
The bars, ballroom, restaurant and reception are all wheelchair accessible as is the Leisure Club where there is a specially designed changing room with a stool under the shower, and a stair lift to the upper floor.
The door widths for wider electric wheelchairs are as follows:
Leisure Club - Narrowest doorway to access shower = 790mm
Virginia Accessible Lodges – French doors = 1450mm,
Door to disabled bedroom = 760mm, Door to disabled bathroom = 720mm
We do have a wheelchair available for hire free of charge with a £50 deposit, but this will usually need to be booked in advance.
