Frequently Asked Questions

This is where you will find most answers. If there should still be any questions left, don't hesitate to contact us.
What facilities do you offer in the Leisure Club?
The leisure club has two areas: the wet area – in which is the 18 metres swimming pool with shallow beach for children, jaccuzzi, sauna and steam room; and the dry area - housing the gym and activity/aerobics room. Membership allows you to use all the facilities although some lessons are charged for separately.
What classes of membership are available?
We offer Full, Joint, Off-peak, Six Month and Child memberships- we can provide a solution for most circumstances.
What must I bring with me when I join up?
You will need 2 passport sized photographs for each membership card and the payment, or the first instalment and bank details, if you are paying monthly.
Can I spread the payments for my membership?
Yes, you may pay monthly by direct debit.
When will I need to collect my membership card?
Your membership card will be posted to you at the address you supplied on the application form.
Will I be able to use the Leisure Club immediately?
We will give you a receipt for your payment and you can use this to enter the leisure centre until your membership card(s) arrive.
Can I suspend my membership if circumstances change?
We understand there may be a change in your circumstances, in which case we are happy to put your membership on hold. The minimum period is one month and we need one month’s notice. We retain your membership card(s) while your membership is suspended and return it when you are able to use the leisure centre again.
Do I need to tell anyone when I arrive?
Everyone must sign-in at the Leisure Club reception desk on arrival and sign-out when they leave. Once you have signed-in, the leisure centre attendant will let you through into the changing rooms.
Can I bring a guest along?

Yes, you may bring a guest up to six times a year. Prices are £10 for an adult guest and £5 for a child guest.

Where do I get changed?
There are separate men’s and ladies’ changing rooms and a changing room for disabled use, all with showers. All users should shower before using any of the wet facilities.
How many facilities may I use during my visit?
You may use any of the facilities during your visit; using the shower and changing into the appropriate clothing between activities.
Do I need to bring my own towels to the Leisure Club?
It is always advisable to bring your own towels. Ideally a small towel to wipe down equipment after use and a larger towel if you are going to take a shower or swim.
What if I forget to pack a towel?

You can hire personal towels from the Manor House reception. The charge is £5.00 per set and a £10.00 deposit is required. We provide paper towels to wipe down the equipment after use.

What else should I bring when I come to the Leisure Club?

Bring your membership card(s). Bring some soap, shampoo and the correct clothing and footwear for your activity. You might also like to bring a pair of headphones, see below.

What is the dress code?
In the gym, it is important to be comfortable so we advise wearing light, breathable clothing that has been designed for physical activity. Shorts and a T-shirt are fine as well. Please bring gym shoes to change into rather than wearing your outdoor shoes and wear only closed shoes such as cross-trainers or running shoes. You will need a swimming costume if you intend to use the pool. Remember to bring something warm to wear after your exercise.
Do I need to take an induction course to use the gym equipment?
Yes, please make an appointment with our gym instructors who will give you an induction into the safe use of our gym equipment. The price of the induction and initial programme are included in your joining fee. If you require further fitness programmes or personal training, please arrange this with the gym instructor directly. There may be a charge for individual tuition.
Can I watch television or listen to music while I exercise in the gym?
All the cardio-vascular exercise machines have a television screen with a range of channels to view. You will need to bring a pair of headphones with a 3.5mm jack like the ones on an MP3 player.
How long may I use the cardio equipment?
It is not advisable to over-use the cardio fitness equipment, especially when you first start to visit the gym. At peak times some of the cardio machines, such as treadmills and cross trainers, have a time limit of 30 minutes to allow for fair use for all our members.
Is the pool warm and safe?
Our swimming pool is heated throughout the year and it is safely treated using a chlorine-based, automatic, monitored and recorded dosing system.
Which is better: the sauna or the steam room? What's the difference?
Both are equally enjoyable to use, they are just different. The steam room uses moist heat while the sauna uses dry heat; it’s a matter of individual preference. If you have a medical condition, please consult our pool staff to determine whether the sauna and steam room are suitable for your use.
Do I have to pay extra to attend classes?

Classes are run by the instructors and fees for the class are paid at the reception.

Do I have to book for classes?

Some classes are very popular and booking is therefore essential to avoid disappointment; especially in peak hours. Please book through our website or call the Leisure Club.

I have never done group exercise before. What classes are best for me?
The best people to talk to are the instructors; they will be able to help you decide what type of exercise will be most appropriate for you. We have no doubt you will enjoy every minute of the classes they offer. Get a timetable from reception or view on-line; there is a description of each class offered which should help you decide what to attend and when.
Are there facilities for a snack or drink after my work-out?

The Manor House, which is open for Leisure Club members, offers tea, coffee and other beverages and snacks in addition to a full menu including daily specials. There are comfortable sofas to relax on while you have your after-exercise refreshment. The Manor House also arranges weekend evening entertainment and Leisure Club members are welcome to join in with these events.
